The Physicist-Practitioner Workshop "Teaching Physics at University"
The workshop took place as part of the 79th International Scientific Conference of the University of Latvia.
The workshop was organised by the Chair of Physics Education Research of the Department of Physics of the University of Latvia. The main speakers were Ģirts Barinovs and Lāsma Puķina-Slava, who talked about the implementation and results of a student-centred approach in physics courses and awareness-raising in students' laboratory work. The guest speaker, professor Dirk Brockmann-Behnsen from Leibniz University Hannover, gave a presentation on examples of astronomy in physics courses from primary school to university level.
The seminar gathered more than 30 participants – physics lecturers and colleagues from Riga Technical University, Rīga Stradiņš University, University of Daugavpils, Leibniz University Hannover, Rezekne Academy of Technologies, Skola2030 project, National Centre for Education, Riga State Gymnasium No. 1, Tukums Rainis Gymnasium, as well as local colleagues from the Department of Physics of the University of Latvia and other interested participants.
Participants learned about the latest developments in universities and education structures, heard about the experiences of colleagues, and discussed the current and foreseeable situation in physics education at universities. A useful and interesting seminar, where a recording of part of the participants' presentation can be watched here.
