Astronomy has so far been taught mainly as part of the school physics course, but from the 2022/2023 school year it is also possible to take astronomy as a separate course in secondary school. From the 2020/2021 school year, a team of Latvian pupils is participating in the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics. To give pupils, students and teachers the opportunity to develop and deepen their knowledge of astronomy, the "Astronomy for Secondary School: an Advanced Course" – a series of 9x4 lessons on astronomy topics – has been developed:
- Spherical astronomy
- Astronomical instruments
- Elements of celestial mechanics
- Cosmonautics
- Solar system
- Fundamentals of astrophysics
- Stars
- Milky Way and other galaxies
- Cosmology
Videos, presentations and links to web resources on relevant topics can be found when participants register for the open access course: https://ej.uz/astrokurss.
